Wash down procedure after use in salt waterUpdated a year ago
After use in salt water it is important to wash down the the Boogie to prevent salt build up, corrosion and sand from entering the zipper. More details on why the motor doesnt require disassembly like a Foildrive motor is found here.
- Rinse the remote with fresh water.
- Rinse the entire Boogie with fresh water. Pay attention to any sand caught under the straps of the trolley.
- Be careful of the Boogie sliding off the trolley while washing. This could damage the propellor.
- On the tail cone at the rear of motor there is a small hole, use a water bottle or hose to spray water in there to prevent corrosion of the motor shaft. An occasional spray of lanolin or corrosion inhibitor in this hole is recommended.
- You do do not need to remove the propeller.
- Rinse off the rest of the motor mount.
- A spray of the motor mount with Lanolin won't hurt, but it is not required.
- Once the Boogie is rinsed and any sand is removed, dry around the zipper with a towel.
- Although the everything inside the Boogie is water resistant it is best practice to keep inside as dry as possible - Dry yourself, get out of your wetsuit before removing the battery.
- If you are swapping batteries you can leave a towel inside the Boogie to catch any drips if you are heading straight back out.
- Open the zip and remove the battery.
- The zip should always be kept in a closed position
- Do not use grease on the battery terminals
- If the zipper is hard to open place some more silicone lubricant on the external surfaces of the zip as per this guide
- Keep the the Boogie, battery and remote and out of the sun at the end of a session.
